Iran jumps 5 places in FIFA ranking

TEHRAN, Apr. 06 (MNA) – The latest ranking of the FIFA World Ranking system for men's national teams based on the games played in the last month shows Iran moving from 33rd to 28th place, still the best in Asia.

Iran men's national football team still lead the way in Asia as the Persian Cheetah’s two victories of last month over Qatar and China have put the squad in the 28th place of the latest edition of FIFA’s monthly ranking of national teams in the world.

A total of 219 formal fixtures were held in the last month and the results changed the positions for almost 90 percent of state members leaving only 19 of the 211 FIFA countries remained in the same position as their March placings,

The most nostalgic change of this month ranking is the return of the Brazilians to the top of the pile for the first time in seven years as they garnered victories over Uruguay, and Paraguay and punched their ticket to Russia.

In Asia, in addition to Iranians who made an upward move with amassing 820 points, other squads have also found their place changed. South Korea, the closest rivals of Iran’s Team Melli, dropped three slots in the ranking trailing Iranians at the 43rd place. Just one place lower, at the 44th slot, stand the Japanese Samurai Blue, with 7 steps rise and total points of 685. The same with Iranians Australia’s Socceroos have m,ade a five-step jump and now the Socceroos are positioned at the 50 place of the table with 661 point.
